“WHAT WE LEARN TO DO, WE LEARN BY DOING” (ARISTOTLE).

This is the firm belief of the Career and Technical Education Departments of Platt and Maloney High Schools.  With this in mind, all of our curriculum offerings consist of experiential and academic components.  We realize that all students, regardless of individual interests, aptitudes and abilities, need certain skills to succeed in the “real world.”  To that end, we offer experiences which allow for the application of educational lessons to practical situations that students will face upon entering the workforce.

Our website is set up to demonstrate how we do this as well as prepare students who are interested in furthering their education beyond high school.  We are proud of our long history of serving students in the city of Meriden and continuously work to modify our curriculum in order to continue to prepare our students to succeed in the multicultural, pluralistic, global economy of the 21st Century.

CTE programs are a crucial and integral component of a comphrensive high school education.
These courses are designed to use tools and technology as well as knowledge from other academic areas to bolster problem solving skills and to help students think creatively. The interactive environment these activities take place in are known to favor retention of academic material.
The programs help produce citizens that are effective members of our society by being technologically literate creative thinkers and problem solvers, lifelong learners, entrepeneurial leaders, and better consumers with enhanced life skills and career awareness.
Additionally, many students who have not found success in other school endeavors find such in CTE. This awareness not only helps retain students, but improves school climate by engaging the student in areas that pique interest.
